Prof. Frank Thoenes
Northgerman Philharmonic Orchestra
Rostock University of Music and Drama
was born in Nettetal near Dusseldorf, West-Germany.
He studied at the Folkwanghochschule in Essen with Prof. Rolf Heister ,former Solobass of WDR Symphony Orchester in Cologne.
He joint several master classes (later as Co-Teacher) with Wolfgang Güttler, former member of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Professor in Cologne and Karlsruhe.
After his studies Frank Thoenes had got a scholarship as Principal Double Bass at the “Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss” with its Chief Conducter Johannes Goritzki.
Since that time he took part in many CD-recordings and played solo- and chamber music, for example in the Festival Cervantino in Mexiko, in Festivals in Ascona and Salzburg, the “Oberstorfer Musiksommer”,
the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades and at the Richard-Strauß-Festival in Garmisch/Germany.
As an orchestra musician he played also with WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Berlin Symphonic Orchestra, Hamburger Staatsoper, Essen Philharmonic, NDR Radiophilharmonie, and joint conductors like Claudio Abbado, Matthias Bamert, Bernard Haitink and Zubin Metha.
Concert trips have taken him through whole Europe, America, Asia and Australia.
Since 1996 he is Principal Bass at the Norddeutsche Philharmonie in Rostock (Northgerman Philharmonic Orchestra).
Since 2005 he is teacher at the Rostock University of Music and Drama, and from October 2019 Professor.
He gives Master Classes in Europe, China and Japan.
